Guide to Text-to-Speech

Q: What is Text-To-Speech, or TTS as it's called?
A: Your computer can vocally read to you. Any kind of text. News, e-books, websites, school books, etc. It's quite simple to use, so don't be fooled by the complex lingo out there!

Q: What are the ingrediants?
A: You're already set to go, just download number four from the following list. Except number four, this should all be on your Windows computer already:

1. Computer with speakers! Or any old headphones.
2. The Speech Engine. For windows, this is called "Microsoft Speech API".
3. Voice.
4. Speech Software. This puts the engine and the voices together. Download it here, run it, and youre set!: http://www.datafurnace.net.au/sayzme/html/home.html

Q: Where can I get Text-To-Speech?
A: Google search for "Free Text-to-Speech". Do some exploring.

Q: Can you give me a list of free good Text-to-Speech programs?
A: Yes! Here are some I love and use:
* "Sayz Me". http://www.datafurnace.net.au/sayzme/html/home.html
* ReadPlease (You'll need a serial number or purchase it).

Q: For those brave enough, let's get a little advanced. What is there to know about TTS, and where can I get more natural-sounding voices? Can I get an AIML ChatBot to talk through my speakers? Does MSN Live Messenger talk? Can I talk to my computer? Can I vocally tell a chat bot to control my home lighting and also my car electronics?
A: Yes to all..but it can get messy. As for the details, I'm currently researching all this...will update later.

Q: What about us Non-Windows Linux users?
A: I personally have Ubuntu Linux... I'll write up a little how-to here sooner or later.

That's about it for now. Updates soon to follow. Stay tuned for aditional guides on www.eh3.us
